The Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross is now accepting nominations for its 2009 Real Heroes awards.  The awards will be presented November 19 at the 13^th annual Real Heroes Breakfast at the Bangor Civic Center.

“Real Heroes are people whose acts of courage, kindness and selflessness have helped save lives or have enriched our communities,” said Chapter executive director Shannon Flavin Cox. “Each year since 1997, the Pine Tree Chapter and WABI-TV5 and the CW have taken this opportunity to recognize the true heroes among us. Last year, heroes from Franklin, Lee, Millinocket, Lagrange, Brewer and Bangor were celebrated as people who made a difference.”

Real Heroes nominees must live, study or work in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Knox, Waldo, Hancock or Washington Counties. Real Heroes will be selected by a community committee. Their heroic acts must have taken place between July 2008 and September 1, 2009.
